Sokratis K. Katsikas was born in Athens, Greece, in 1960. He currently serves as the Director of the Norwegian Centre for Cybersecurity in Critical Sectors and holds the position of Professor within the Department of Information Security and Communication Technology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Additionally, he holds the title of Professor Emeritus at the Department of Digital Systems, University of Piraeus, Greece.
In 2019, Katsikas was honored with a Doctorate Honoris Causa from the Department of Production and Management Engineering at Democritus University of Thrace, Greece. During May-June 2023, he served as the Minister of Digital Governance in the interim (caretaking) government of the Hellenic Republic. In the same year, he was recognized by Stanford University, being listed among the top 2% most cited scientists worldwide.
Katsikas has authored or co-authored over 300 journal papers, book chapters, and conference proceedings papers. He has served on the editorial boards of several prestigious scientific journals. Furthermore, he has co-authored or edited 52 books and has served on/chaired the technical program committee of more than 900 international scientific conferences, including GLOBECOM 2006, 2012, and 2015. Katsikas is a member of the Steering Committee of the ESORICS Conference (chair 2017-2023) and the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Information Security (Springer).
